Hello December

Here’s some of the earrings I have worked on recently! They’ll be available at my next market this Sunday, December 4th 11-4p @ the Tacoma Sunday Market.

2 December 2022

It’s the last month of the year and peak holiday season! There’s lots of things going on this time and we are all very busy getting ready to spend time with family and celebrate the holidays. December is also a step closer to the new year and with the new year comes new ideas, goals and adventures. For Kabenzie’s, the new year means a new collection and new ways of expanding this small business.

It’s been a whirlwind of a ride for Kabenzie’s, I’ve learned so much navigating how to run a small business. There’s been ups and downs and lots of contemplation of what to do. Through this last year I’ve realized why I create, my love for community and my passion for working for myself. It’s been a journey throughout the year and I am so happy to say I am walking into the new year with a better perspective and motivation to grow my business even more.

Even though we haven’t officially entered the new year, I figured it was still a good time to dip my toes in the water and try a new way of expanding Kabenzie’s this month. I have a couple events I’ll be participating in, one of them being the Tacoma Sunday Market. I felt the Sunday Market was the perfect place to test out selling second hand apparel and vintage clothes! This Sunday on December 4th, I’ll be setting up a small rack of clothes. I cleaned out my closet and felt like it was the perfect opportunity to step into something new! I only have a small selection of clothes this time around, but I think it’s the perfect amount to test out the waters.

With good hopes in this new endeavor of selling apparel, I can’t wait to see how I can expand and grow it throughout next year! This is all trial and error and I would love to hear any feedback if you come shop with me. Along with selling apparel, I also have plans for a new collection for the new year! I am still brainstorming and figuring out what I want this collection to look like, but I plan on having it finished up by January and sharing it at the beginning of next month. Keep your eyes peeled for more to come with the new collection, it’ll be a good one!

With all the new things to come and the growth of Kabenzie’s, I also am trying to navigate how to build my online and social presence better. I haven’t been one to be too tech savvy or very present on social media, but with the day and age we live in our digital presence is more relevant than ever. I don’t want to dedicate all my time into social media, but I do want to take advantage of the opportunities it holds.

As I was brainstorming how to build my digital presence, I took some notes of how other small businesses use their platforms. I noticed that many small businesses do story sales, something I know I am very capable of doing. Story sales seems like a step in the right direction to be more active on social media and is something I will be trying out at the end of this month and beginning of next year. I always have left over product at the end of each month and what better way to promote and sell the product than through stories. At the end of December, I will be doing my first story sale and will have lots of discounted goods for all my followers to shop, so stay tuned!

Another way to stay connected and present on social media is through newsletters and consistent posting. Looking to other small businesses, I noticed that quite a few of them have a way for their followers to subscribe to newsletters. In their newsletters there’s updates for new shop details, sales, and other good to know info for their customers. I also realized that many businesses tend to be very consistent and intentional with their posts. Like I said before, I am not very active on social media and I know being consistent with posting is something I struggle with for my business, but I am working on being more consistent and intentional with my post. Though I don’t post often, I want to be able to make each post meaningful and purposeful. With lots of inspiration from other wonderful small businesses, I am ready to take what I’ve learned from them and grow my small business.

This blog post was just a quick update for the new things to come and was also a way for me to get my ideas out there and hold myself to them. I can’t wait to share with you all the new things I have planned and I look forward to seeing you at the markets or online!

I almost forgot to mention, along with this Sunday’s market I will also being doing another one next Sunday, December 11th. Next Sunday I will be popping up at the 507 Taproom for their Sip & Shop from 12-6p. There will be lots of amazing vendors and good gifts for the holidays, and you can grab yourself a drink and shop around the taproom!

See you guys soon!

Kabenzie :)
